Proverbs 7 - review from last week

Text: 2 Corinthians 2:11; James 1:19-22

Deception: The practice of deceiving; the fact or condition of being deceived; something that

deceives, whether by design or illusion;

Deceive - to ensnare, deceive, to make a person believe what is not true; delude; mislead; to

false to betray, to while away; misrepresentation of facts by words, actions; to mislead is to

cause to follow the wrong course or to err in conduct or action, use of wiles and enticing words

to deceive or mislead

Deception is believing a lie. It’s being blind sided with false information. It keeps you from

walking in the fullness of the light and the will of God. It is a major weapon of Satan.

The objective of this message today is to unmask deception in the lives of God’s people. To

reveal the deceiver’s deception.

Satan is a master deceiver. He deceived one third of the angels to follow him. He deceived

Eve in the perfect environment. He deceived Judas to betray the Son of God.

What is he deceiving you with today?

- Has he deceived in believing that you don’t need to attend church on a regular basis.

- Has he deceived you into not honoring the Lord with the full tithe and giving offerings.

- Has he deceived you into a sin that you are entangled in.

- Has he deceived you into legalism. Legalism is dependence on moral law than faith in Christ.

- Believing your works make you righteous before God.

- Has he deceived you into hyper-grace?

The term hyper-grace has been used to describe a new wave of teaching that emphasizes the grace of God to the exclusion of other vital teachings such as repentance and confession of sin. Hyper-grace teachers maintain that all sin, past, present, and future, has already been forgiven, so there is no need for a believer to ever confess it. Hyper-grace teaching says that, when God looks at us, He sees only a holy and righteous people. The conclusion of hyper-grace teaching is that we are not bound by

Jesus’ teaching, even as we are not under the Law; that believers are not responsible for

their sin; and that anyone who disagrees is a pharisaical legalist. In short, hyper-grace

teachers “pervert the grace of our God into a license for immorality” (Jude 1:4) and flirt with

antinomianism. Preachers of hyper-grace doctrine discount the Old Testament and the Ten

Commandments as irrelevant to New Testament believers. They even teach that Jesus’

words spoken before His resurrection are part of the Old Covenant and no longer applicable

to born-again believers.

- Has he deceived you with the hellish theology that some are chosen for heaven and others

are chosen for eternal punishment.

- Has he deceived you that you can’t forfeit your salvation and miss heaven.

- Has he deceived you that activities on Sundays that take you away from worship are ok with

God.

- Has he deceived you to be ok not to speak in tongues. That God doesn’t have that as a gift

for you. Or tongues aren’t for today or they are of the devil.

- Has he deceived you to be ok with not reading your bible daily. Convincing you that you are

too busy with work, school, kids, singleness to spend 30 minutes in the Word.

- Has he deceived you that it’s ok to be a Christian without being a member of any church

where you are accountable for your walk and life.

- Has he deceived you into believing that the Holy Spirit has spoken to you when it was one of

his spirits.

- Has he deceived you that you don’t need a church, a pastor.

James 1:19-27

James 1:19 - Your mouth will deceive your heart if you are not careful. You are snared with

the words of your mouth

Proverbs 6:2 Your ears are the gates to your heart. Notice the word

ear in heart. It is the core of your heart. What you hear.

Mark 4:23-24(Take heed to what you hear. With the value you put on what you hear, it will be measured back to you and you will grow in your hearing

Proverbs 1:5 - Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance ; Luke 8:18 (Take care how you hear -How you hear is just importance as you what you hear)

What you hear - content

How you hear - attitude - do you listen with the intention to obey God’s Word

James 1:19 - Be slow to speak and quick to hear - slow to anger - Don’t allow anger to be what

the enemy uses you to deceive you into hating or getting offended. - Don’t allow anger to

control your life - Be self-controlled - Evil spirits will get you mad and anger you where you can’t

hear God and obey Him - The Holy Spirit will produce self-control in your life - Evil spirits will

make you uncontrollable - The Holy Spirit will produce controlled Christians who are governed

by their faith and not their feelings.

James 1:20 - The anger of man produces ungodliness.

It’s important that we not miss what James is saying here: an unwillingness to listen, a sinful

tongue, and unrighteous anger are moral evils.

James 1:21 - Put away all filthiness - moral filth - not listening to God - ungodly tongue - Get

rid of sin - do what you must to get rid of sin. Rampant wickedness - That which is wicked -

morally bad or wrong - done with evil intent; depraved; no restraint - all out - beast mode -

void of God consciousness.

Instead receive with humility the implanted Word of God - Let the Word grab hold of your heart

and mind and your mouth. It’s able to save your soul.

James 1:22 - Be doers of that Word and not hears only - Deceiving yourself - The deceived

Christian is the one who hears the Word but doesn’t do it. Self-deceived - self destructed - the

sand - we’ll talk about that next week.

Just because you hear the Word does not mean you are doing it. Just because you read, study

it - doesn’t mean you are living it. Just because you are teaching it doesn’t mean you are living

it.

One major deception is everything that has and will happen in your life God is doing it. God is

behind everything. Blame God for everything in life.

You had an accident - it’s God. You got pregnant - it’s God. You lost your job - it’s God. You

prayed and the answer showed up - it’s God.

Just because you prayed a prayer and it seems like God answered it doesn’t mean it was him.

This deception runs deep in the church.

Deception takes a truth and mixes it with lies.

Poison - mix something attractive to the poison.

How not to be deceived

-Stay with familiar biblically sound doctrine - stay with that which is not weird or

strange

-Be reminded of truths you already know

-Be willing to admit when you are wrong

-Don't think all you know is all there is to know

-Be willing to give up your doctrine for bible doctrine

-Resist pride

-Be willing to hear what you don't want to hear

-Examine everything you believe in light of the Word - NT

-Rely upon the anointing inside

-Don’t hold on to traditions - it makes the word ineffective

-Receive the Word of God no matter what

-Put the Word first place

-Receive the Word as the final authority in your life even if you don't like

-Allow that transforming Word to transform you

-Seek the kingdom of God through prayer, fasting and giving

-Hide the Word in your heart and keep it on your lips and meditate in your mind.

Text: Matthew 6:13; Galatians 1:4

The Origin of Satan:

Isaiah 14:12-20 - Satan was Lucifer - He was an archangel that served God in worship. He was a worshipper, He got prideful and was thrown out of heaven. Sin started within him. He sinned from the beginning.

Ezekiel 28:11-18 - This being became evil - worship was supposed to flow through him and not to him. Satan was thrown out of heaven for his sin.

Luke 10:17-20 - Jesus saw Satan fall from heaven like lightning.

1 John 5:19 - The world lies in darkness now.

There are three types of churches:

-    The Militant Church - It depicts a body of believers who are not yet seated in heavenly places in Christ and are still battling to try to gain the victory over an enemy that hasn’t been defeated yet by the Lord Jesus Christ.

-    The Defeated Church - This church gives us a picture of a church which is ignorant of the fact that they are seated with Christ and that they are supposed to be reigning in life through Jesus Christ or they’ve never used the authority they already possess. These believers are always ravaged by the wiles of Satan and are in a state of continual failure and defeat.

-    The Triumphant Church - This is the biblical perspective of the Body of Christ state with Christ in heavenly places far above all powers and principalities (Ephesians 1:3; 2:6). The triumphant Church scripturally portrays a Body of believers who not only know, but exercise their authority in Christ and are reigning in life through Jesus Christ over Satan, a defeated foe (Romans 5:17).

Hints of a possible Pre-Adamic kingdom:

Satan was called Lucifer before his fall from heaven - He became Satan after his fall. He fell and caused humanity to fall. Satan will ensure your fall if you follow him.

The origin of demons, devils, or evil spirits is not made so clear.

Some scholars believe millions of years elapsed between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2. Some believe there could have been an original earthly kingdom before the creation recorded in Genesis chapter 1.

The evil spirits that are here on the earth, could have been a part of that original pre-Adamic kingdom. Many scholars believe before the flood, a pre-Adamic kingdom existed - this would explain the discoveries of dinosaurs and other animals that once lived on the earth.

Isaiah 14:12-14

-    Lucifer had a some kind of throne with some type of authority. He probably reigned below the clouds and stars (13).

-    It’s possible that Lucifer ruled a kingdom here on earth which existed before Adam but at the same time prehistoric animals roamed this earth. Maybe Satan ruled his kingdom during this pre-Adamic creation and the evil spirits now on the earth were fallen spirit beings from that creation. We don’t have chapter and verse for it; but on the other hand, Scripture doesn’t refute it either. We do see hints of it in the Scriptures.

Man was not part of that pre-adamic creation - 1 Cor. 15:45 - The FIRST MAN Adam.

The other possibility is that evil spirits included those angels that fell in Lucifer’s rebelling (Rev. 12:4,9)

Peter talks about fallen angels in chains - 2 Peter 2:4 - some believe the fallen angels are in hell now.

Satan’s names reveal His nature and character:

-    Adversary - 1 Peter 5:8

-    Thief - John 10:10

-    Murderer and Liar - John 8:44

-    Accuser of the brothers - Rev. 12:10

-    Deceiver - Rev. 12:9

-    Angel of Light - 2 Corinthians 11:14

-    The prince of this world - John 12:31; 14:30; 16:8, 11

-    The god of this world system - 2 Cor. 4:4

Satan became the god of this world through Adam’s transgression. Adam was to rule and have dominion on the earth - Genesis 1:26, 28; Psalm 8:4-6

Adam forfeited his authority to Satan when he sinned and disobeyed God and obeyed Satan.

Luke 4:1,2, 5 - 8

(2) Tempted of the Devil

(5) All the kingdoms of the world

(6) All this power - For that is delivered unto me

Satan’s dominion after his fall includes the heavens - Ephesians 6:12 - High Places

Three Heavens -

-1st Heaven - The Sky Stars, space, the universe

-2nd Heaven - Where Satan and other spiritual beings dwell

-3rd Heaven - Where God dwells

2 Corinthians 12:2-4

It’s because of Satan’s rule in this world that we need to be delivered from evil.

Matthew 6:13 - Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil (evil one).

Galatians 1:4 - Deliver us from this present age.

Satan uses evil to fulfill his will on the earth.

3 wills on the earth

God has a will. Humanity has a will. Satan has a will.

Your will will be under the influence of either Satan or God.

Satan’s will is to kill, to steal and to destroy - John 10:10

Everything he does will manifest in these 3 verbs.

2 Timothy 2:22-26

The snare of the devil after being captured by him to do his will.

You will serve God or Satan. - When you serve yourself, you are serving Satan.

You serve God through righteousness and you serve Satan through sin.

The devil has his way when you are flesh ruled and God has his way when you are spirit ruled.

Deliver us from

-    The evil one - Matthew 6:13

-    Evil deed - 2 Timothy 4:18

-    Strange women - Proverbs 7

-    Unreasonable and wicked men - 2 Thessalonians 3:1-3; Psalm 140:1-2

How does the Lord deliver us?

-    John 17:15 - 17 - Through His Word - the process of sanctification

-    Ephesians 4:22; Galatians 3:20 - the putting off the old man - the flesh

-    James 5:16- Prayer

-    2 Timothy 2:22 - Fleeing the temptation

-    Through pureness of heart - 2 Timothy 2:22; Psalm 51:10-12; Matthew 5:8

How to Study the Bible

Texts: 2 Timothy 2:15, Joshua 1:8, Psalms 1 & 119

It is important we learn different methods in studying the Word of God. I've found over the years that many believers struggle in their reading and studying of the Bible. Satan is afraid of believers studying the Bible and making it priority in their lives. If believers would study and meditate the Word of God, they would discover who God is and who they are in Christ. This is what makes a person a threat to Satan. God uses our studying and meditating to engraft His Word into our hearts. Colossians 3:16 says "Let the words of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God." Many people are poverty stricken in their word level. I challenge you today to make a decision to study the Word of God like never before and become rich in your Word level.

I. You must read it.
   1. Reading the Word is extremely important
   2. Daily reading
   3. Read it, read it, read it

II. Find a spot to stay a while, then read it several times
   1. Select a book or a passage and read it several times
   2. Get it in your heart and mind.

III. Look for key words/phrases that stand out
   1. Write them down
   2. Look them up in the original languages.*

IV. Try to answer the following questions
   1. Who wrote the book?
   2. Who is the writer's audience?
   3. Why did he write the book?
   4. What was he saying in the book?
   5. What is the timeless principle that applies to all generations?

V. Apply the timeless principle to your own life.

VI. Read some commentaries ONLY after you have read it several times

This is only one of the many ways to study God's Word.

As believers we should give ourselves over to the Word of God, some of us only read the scriptures but we should come to a place in our walk with Christ where we are studying the scriptures. It is in studying the Word that we discover who God is and we learn of His ways. I challenge you to study the Word and trust the Holy Spirit to teach you about Jesus.

Ephesians 1:15-23 is a prayer that will help us as we study the Word, so pray it for yourself and watch the Holy Spirit take you into His classroom.

2017 Summer Update at Kingdom Living Ministries

Perth Amboy waterfront.

Perth Amboy waterfront.

It's been a while since we posted on the blog...we've been busy!

Summer was slow coming to Jersey. The weather just didn't want to change from the mild temperatures and rain showers of spring. However, things have finally heated all the way up outside, and likewise, Summer at KLM is in full swing.

A few exciting updates:

For the first time in the history of our church, candidates will be licensed into ministry. Two candidates are our elders-in-training, Alan Jean and Clev St. Hillaire. This licensing will be the first step on the way to their eventual ordination as Associate Pastors at Kingdom Living Ministries. The other two candidates are Jackie Dixon, who actually co-founded KLM but has never been licensed, and none other than yours truly, your very own leading lady. I was licensed as a minister years ago in another church, but we all (should) know that credentials don't automatically transfer with you when you change churches. My husband Pastor DeWayne sees fit to license me at Kingdom Living, and I could not be happier! Please join us on August 27 for this historic event. It won't be a big affair; we're saving that for ordination next year.

The week before the licensing ceremony, we will hold the first baptisms of this year. This is also a special day for me as one of the four candidates is my five-year-old son! Please join us on August 20 at Ocean Grove Beach as we celebrate this occasion.

Other upcoming events include:

  • A gender reveal reception showcasing the Johnson family's upcoming addition, on July 16.
  • The launching of KLM's infants and toddlers church/nursery for ages 3 and under, also on July 16.
  • And Friends & Family Day on July 30.

Don't miss what God is doing at KLM!!! Visit us for one of our services one Sunday this summer. We'd love to have you.

Possessing Your Inheritance, Part 2

When we understand what God did for his people in Christ, we will begin to live life the way God designed it. The Lord Jesus did not come to the earth for himself but for us to know God the Father and live life on his level. Possessing your inheritance is learning to walk in the kingdom of God. The kingdom of God is not just allocated to the future but it starts now in this age. The Father has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light according to Colossians 1:12. What is this inheritance?

This inheritance includes the forgiveness of sins. It is in Christ we have redemption, even the forgiveness of sins. Sin no longer has dominion over the believer. The power of sin has been broken through the precious cross of Calvary. We are free from sin according to Romans 6. Our freedom from sin is part of our inheritance. We are no longer control by the very thing the offends God. Jesus died for our sins and was raised for our justification. We have been declared justified in the sight of God through our faith in Christ. We are no longer sinners but saints. We were sinners prior to Christ saving us. We have been saved by grace through faith. We are no longer under the influence of sin and its ugly offsprings. We are free indeed. This is a living reality that many believers are still struggling to grasp. Our freedom has been guaranteed by the blood of Jesus.

The forgiveness of sins is a big deal. God does not deal with us according to our sins but according to the work and person of Jesus. Once we confess our sins, God separates us from our sins as far as the east is from the west. We are brand new creatures in Christ Jesus. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” When the Lord saved us, this act of God forgiving our sins released the power of God to make us brand new creatures. We are something that has never existed before. We are new species. We are not reformed, renovated, remodeled, or a better version of our old self. We are brand new. Some believers are praying to be made over again. There’s no need to be made over again. The need is to possess our inheritance through the renewal of the mind. We are something that never existed before through Christ. God is working to make a new people for himself. If you have made Jesus the Lord over your life, then you are a new creature. Let’s begin today to walk in this newness of life that God has provided for us in his son.

There are at least 35 things we have inherited from the Lord. The following are part of our inheritance: Leadership of the Holy Spirit, Fear-less life, The Spirit of adoption, The witness of the Spirit, Heirs of God, Join-heirs of God, suffering with the Lord, Intercession of the Spirit, The love of God, the baptism of the Holy Spirit, the name of Jesus, the blood of Jesus, Divine healing and health, divine protection, prosperity, peace, joy, the gifts of the Spirit, the fruit of the spirit, answered prayer, the Word of God, victory, boldness, the BLESSING, eternal life, intercession of Jesus, godly children, successful marriage, wisdom, understanding and knowledge, sweet communion of the Holy Spirit, fellowship with the saints, the Lord's Table, water baptism, help, contentment, comfort, and favor. Begin today by searching the scriptures to possess your inheritance in Christ.
